Concrete Flooring-Concrete Polishing in Detail

The technology of Polished concrete for concrete flooring has been around for centuries and in many countries. Any concrete sub-floor can be polished. But where design and styling are important, BGSB’s signature process is the key to a 5 star result for all your concrete flooring requirements.

Style: Polished concrete produces an open, seamless and spacious feeling. This is achieved in part from the absence of any geometry that would be created with tiles, timber or even carpet. Quite remarkably, the range of potential colors, textures and effects are almost limitless. A central characteristic of polished concrete is that no two sub-floors are ever alike, creating a canvas for individual expression.BGSB provides information sheets on colors, stone and finishes and encourages you to view our project folio for ideas. The best way to find the right style is to borrow from your interior design. Share your ideas with BGSB or ask us to share ours.

Grinding: BGSB’s signature polishing process allows you to select the amount of grinding from a fine Ballroom finish to Living, Cafe, and Warehouse, Garage or a course Pathway grind. During grinding BGSB vacuums away all dust in what is called in-process removal. This means there would be no dust collecting on your concrete flooring. Unlike many trades, BGSB removes all sign of their presence from site and this includes environmentally approved removal.

Areas of failed concrete: An area of failed concrete does not mean the floor can not be polished. All concrete cracks and without care concrete will exhibit wear and abuse. BGSB’s signature restoration techniques rectify these areas.

Resurfacing concrete: When a concrete floor does not match a design specification, BGSB is able to resurface an existing sub-floor with various toppings or concrete with the right color and aggregate. This approach is often used when applying different colors within a common concrete flooring area.

BGSB’s “pour to polish” philosophy: If you’re planning a new concrete pour we recommend involving BGSB as soon as possible. Some concrete contractors do not have the craftsman like skills required for polished concrete  floors and there are techniques that should be used when pouring concrete for the purpose of polishing. There are many variables to be considered prior to a fresh pour and architects and designers need to be informed. “Don’t wait till it’s too late.” Ask BGSB for advice right away. Don’t regret your choice as polished concrete cannot be altered once it has been poured.

Polished concrete myths:

Slippery: Polished concrete flooring is no more slippery than the average tile on the market BGSB regularly polishes showers, baths and high moisture areas with proven results.

Cold: BGSB’s three step signature method penetrates and closes concrete pores, reducing temperature rising to the surface. BGSB also promotes natural in floor heating in cold climates which may increase the buildings energy star rating.

High maintenance: Concrete floors require the use of a dust mop. This is important as a build up of dust can scour the finished surface. With a weekly application of neutral cleaner the average polished floor will enjoy a long life (greater than 5 years). Floor life can also increase if a maintenance regime is incorporated.
