Exterior surfaces
The National Portrait Gallery project was a 400m service road on the galleries grounds. The civil contractor appointed BGSB to undertake all aspects of the concreting works. The entire project included; specifications, planning, supervision, setup, steel works (including cage construction), sub-contracting, concrete supply, pumping and the final finishing, honing and sealing. The reinforcing steel; cage and danley joints; were installed one day and concrete was poured the next. BGSB then, as a signature practice, assesses the pour for aggregate distribution and consistency.
At this point, BGSB is able to determine with some certainty the final result. Equipped with this information adjustments can be made during a window of opportunity immediately after the pour. Knowing what to do to achieve optimal aggregate spread is one feature of BGSB’s signature process
After 5 days of curing, BGSB commenced the process of grinding to fully expose the aggregates to an exterior honing specification of 180 grit. T o finish, compounds where applied to protect and extend the life of the surface well into the future. After 6 days the entire project was finished. A final inspection received client commendations on BGSB’s speed and quality of work.
